biography

Emily Cox is a saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist and music educator based in Lytchett Matravers, Poole, Dorset.
​
Classically trained, Emily loves to play all styles and genres of music, performing in venues across the UK and throughout Europe. Emily 'doubles' on clarinet, bass clarinet, flute as well as playing soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones. 
​
In 2016, she graduated from the University of Southampton with a 2:1
BA (hons) in Music under the tutelage of Dr Angela Space.
​
After completing her undergraduate degree, Emily was awarded a generous scholarship to continue her studies at the world renowned Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK where she recently completed a Masters in Music Performance under the tutelage of Rob Buckland, Carl Raven and Andy Scott. 
​
Alongside her Masters' studies, Emily was also been awarded a FRSM - Fellowship of the Royal Schools of Music in Saxophone Performance.
​
During her studies in both Southampton and Manchester, Emily has received tuition from and appeared in masterclasses with internationally acclaimed artists including Vincent David, Timothy McAllister, Lynn Clock, Christian Foresaw and Jonathan Hulting-Cohen
​
As well as performing as a soloist, Emily dedicates much of her time to chamber music including the Momentum Quartet who have performed throughout the UK and across Europe. Most recently, Momentum performed at the World Saxophone Congress in Zagreb, Croatia, performing Guillermo Lago's Ciudades.  
​
Emily is also a lover of big bands and musicals, regularly performing with the Dorset party band In The Pink Big Band at weddings, parties, events and the Bournemouth Jazz Festival, and playing for musicals such as West Side Story, Oliver, Fiddler On The Roof, Bugsy Malone, Grease and Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Whilst at the University of Southampton, Emily was appointed Principal Saxophonist of the Southampton University Symphonic Wind Orchestra performing across the UK and Europe and also became one Southampton University's Showcase Performers. 
​
In her time at the RNCM, Emily has had the chance to perform with the RNCM Saxophone Orchestra, RNCM Session Orchestra, RNCM Wind Orchestra and RNCM Big Band alongside world class guest artists including Martin Taylor and David Hassell. In 2017, Emily travelled to Porto for the European Saxophone Congress where she performed with the RNCM Saxophone Orchestra as well as part of a saxophone quartet from the RNCM. 
​
